![]() This is quite literally like comparing apples to oranges. You're equating a game that they already have most of the stuff they need, ready to use from the previous game, to a game where they are going to need to create at least a good 80% of it from scratch, as well as take all the time needed to go through legal stuff for IP use of new Disney stuff. They have to work from basically nothing, and 100% make ALL of them. They can't do that for the new Disney characters in kh4. They already have all the models of the main cast we will see, they can just rip the same models for everyone and maybe lightly tweak them but nothing else. FF7 already has all of those things that they can reuse, meaning they don't even have to take the time to make that stuff. But also KH4 is likely going to involve Disney properties and worlds we have not seen yet, meaning they need to go through all the legal work of getting that stuff in the game, as well as all the little stuff like the particle effects and the weird sounds the keyblades make, this new mechanic of destroying and creating or whatever, as well as having to make all new models for the new Disney characters that are going to show up in this game. You realize HOW DIFFERENT these are right? FF7 has an already established story that they need to follow, even somewhat loosely, which makes that aspect go by faster. That's totally how short game development is. Yes, the game that has had 2 minutes in a trailer, and NOTHING else, will release barely 2 years or so after that single trailer. I ALSO know why you think this, but you ain't gonna like my answer lol Why I think Kingdom Hearts 4 will release in 2024 But that's just what I think, I'd like to hear what you all have to say. And while they are changing engines for KH4 the swap from Unreal Engine 4 to 5 is a lot smoother than Luminous Engine to Unreal 4. ![]() Along with that they are also reusing many different assets from KH3 for KH4 which will make things go faster. Now with KH4 the Osaka team has all of KH3 and Re:Mind under their belts they are a lot more prepared to make KH4. Not to mention the engine change and the fact that KH3 was the first game in the series to be multiplatform. They had very little experience in console game development, much less HD console game development. KH3 was a very tall endeavor for the Osaka team who at the start of KH3's development had only made Re:Chain of Memories and games for handhelds. I know a lot of people think KH4 will come out much later because of how long it too to make KH3 but I do not believe KH3 should be seen as the norm in terms of dev times. But I still think KH4 will come out in 2024. Kingdom Hearts 4 will definitely come out after Final fantasy 7 Rebirth because that game has a release window while KH4 doesn't. ![]() If development of KH4 started in 2020 and it takes 4 years for Square to make a game of a similar scope then assuming nothing goes wrong Kingdom Hearts 4 would release in 2024. ![]() So that's 4 years of development time for that game which is standard for AAA games. That game started development in early 2020 right after the release of FF7 Remake and is set to release in early 2024. Now let's look at the dev cycle another upcoming Square Enix game Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. Even though it isn't confirmed an early 2020 start time does make a lot of sense, it's not like the Osaka team was working on anything else after Re:Mind. The internet tells me development started right after Re:Mind released in early 2020 but I can't find a source on that. I don't believe we know exactly when KH4 started development. I want to start with this is all assuming that development is going smoothly and there won't be any massive delays.
