The most engrossing placement in House of Cards however, was PlayStation 3. Perhaps this is because Apple exudes the same reactions-trendy, unrestricted, and inspiriting. It’s especially effective in Zoe’s office, Slugline a modern office of young-professionals that gives off a Facebook-like environment. While these placements appear to take a more conservative route to the issue, by sticking to their marketing strengths, I give them some credit for trying to tackle this professional role. I find this interesting because Apple is a consumer-based company with a history of bad stigma in the business world. In the first episode the iPhone pops up everywhere and we see an iMac in Frank Underwood’s Office in later episodes we also see iMacs and MacBooks in other offices like Claire Underwood’s and Slugline. Like my blog and the market, the brand has a commanding presence in House of Cards. Perhaps my eye is naturally drawn to the distinct logo more often, but I have a feeling that their mountain of available placements is just leaving all their competitors in the dust. I have started to recognize that I discuss Apple products in a lot of my posts. To help focus my thoughts, I am going to specifically talk about the significant placements in Chapter 1 of the show however, I will also be mentioning some related placements that occur in later episodes to help provide more structure to the brand messaging. What kept me from doing it any sooner was my appetite for the show, which I ended up devouring in under a week although nothing compared to how some viewers binged on the show. While I was drawn to the unique distribution brought by Netflix, the show’s distinctive brand placements is what truly got me eager to discuss it. I can’t imagine anyone better for the role of the deceitful and manipulative politician, Frank Underwood, who takes center stage in the drama about vengeance in our Nations Capitol. It was a suitable commencement for Kevin Spacey’s comeback, after 2 decades of inane roles, that will likely be remembered by many among his best. On February 1 st, Netflix made history when it poured the exclusive series and all its episodes onto the web at one time. This week I am going to discuss the new hit show House of Cards.
