When I put the stereo mic heads in wide setting. If I am shooting video with this lens my workaround is that I already own EC-MXYSTM Mi Shoe Mic. I found this with the Sigma 16-70 on amount on my A77 to and posted an video of it. Here's sample video I've recorded using internal microphone. I'm wondering if I should give it back to retailer or maybe send it for warranty repair? It get's worse when AFC haunts a lot looking for proper focus. When change of focus is relatively bigger then sounds get noticeably louder, I can hear it even without using viewfinder. On video I can hear these "muted buzz" sounds, even during incremental changes of focus distance. Hey guys, Yesterday I bought that lens and I'm wondering about loudness of AF. ![]() I was worried shipping went a little rough on it. Good to hear that it's normal for this lens. I just received mine today and it behaves the same way. Not loud per se but you can hear it when using the EVF and you can pick it up when recording a silent video. What is very interesting is that large changes in distance when autofocusing may result in a noticeable "clack". Incremental changes in distance did not result in any sound beyond the muted buzz. Strangely, I do not get the same result/sound when initially focusing on a close object then quickly switching to a much further object. Example where you could hear the "clack" sound: Focus on an object 10 feet away and then quickly switch to an object 2 feet away - you'll hear the muted buzz followed by the "clack". What is very interesting is that large changes in distance when autofocusing may result in a noticeable "clack". When autofocusing on objects in the background / infinity, the sound is a very muted buzz. OK, I did a little bit more testing last night: For other objects, AF-C + flexible spot seems to work fine 99% of the time. I've also noticed that it only happens with certain subjects the only thing I've found that can reliably trigger the problem is a LCD screen. At first I thought it was just a problem on the 19/2.8's limited AF capability, but it seems like the bug still persists on the 30/1.4. ![]() The focus would just wobble around indefinitely without being able to lock on. That seems to be a problem with Sigma's AF implementation as the same thing also happens with the Sigma 19/2.8. Seems like it will continue to hunt after obtaining focus and cant quite lock on. Oh this is only if you're on continuous af and flexible spot or center. If yours is as loud as that, you should definitely send it back for inspection. It does if you listen very carefully, but it is nowhere as loud as the scroll wheel on the mouse. Loud? Not really.but definitely louder than my Sony primes.ĭoes your focus motor make a slight clacking sound? It almost sounds like the scroll wheel on a computer mouse. ![]() ![]() However, the autofocus motor is not silent. If you want to keep your equipment light and small, but not compromise on image rendering performance, this lens is sure to meet your needs, and will be a lens you will never want to let go.Same here - My 30/1.4 does not rattle when not in use (unlike the 30/2.8). The SIGMA’s Contemporary lineup includes several compact and lightweight F1.4 prime lenses in the APS-C format, which are surprisingly compact to carry around. In order to take advantage of the high mobility of mirrorless cameras, compactness of the lens body was also pursued. The lens demonstrates its descriptive power in a wide range of applications, including landscapes, portraits, and tabletop photography. The lens offers excellent resolution from maximum aperture and the rich bokeh effects thanks to its F1.4 brightness. With an easy-to-use angle of view of 35mm*, high optical performance, the brightness of a large F1.4 aperture, and a compact and lightweight lens body, SIGMA’s experience accumulated in the Contemporary line has culminated in a lens that is ideal for use with APS-C mirrorless cameras.
